The Second 100 Kisses

In The First 100 Kisses, a contemporary novella by Danielle Bannister, we met Chloe Clark and Liam McGeary in a fun, steamy friends-to-lovers romance.

In The Second 100 Kisses, we find the two besties taking the romance, and the heat, to a higher level as they explore what they mean to each other and their future.

Our Review: One of the best things about this novella is author Bannister’s ability to write natural, humorous dialogue, then get the reader into the story. This is a natural and fun sequel to the first in this series—well deserving of its own place in the sun.

 On a scale of 1-5, The Second 100 Kisses deserves a 4.

The First 100 Kisses by Danielle Bannister

In The First 100 Kisses, a contemporary romantic novella by Danielle Bannister, we meet Chloe Clark and Liam McGeary. Best of friends for the past several years, the two of them “get” each other—all the warts, flaws, and quirks. They trust each other like no one else, never crossing the lines, never asking for more than the other will give. Sigh.

Until…Liam admits a former girlfriend—maybe the one who got away—plans to make a grand return to his life. He begs for help from Chloe, the woman who knows everything about. . . sex and stuff. Because, like he’s a virgin and never done the deed and since she has—many times over—who else does a guy turn to?

Our Review: Get ready for the ride of your life with this steamy friends-to-lovers romance as Chloe teaches her Best Friend how to win a woman’s heart, mind and body. The fact that Chloe has a secret crush for the nerdy Liam puts a wrench in this particular monkey works. Watching the two come together—literally if not figuratively—is an adventure.

 On a scale of 1-5, The First 100 Kisses deserves a 4.

Acting as a bodyguard to the daughter of one of DC’s mover and shakers is just one more mission like any other. When an enemy from his past targets the spoiled socialite, Hawk realizes she is more than she seems.

With his reputation on the line, he’s willing to risk everything to keep her safe. But succumbing to temptation isn’t an option…no matter how much he wants to give in.

Our Review:

One of the best parts about about Honor Bound, Book 1 of Katherine Grey’s Echo Company series, is meeting the members of the unit and their special gifts and how each has learned to cope with their ‘gift’. Due to their special assignments, the military has become their family of choice. So when a wrench is thrown into their comfortable works, it becomes a fun fest seeing how they will handle said ‘wrench’. Such is the dilemma Jimmy Hawkins faces when confronted by Callie St. John, the first woman to rattle his cage. We can’t wait for Book 2 in this interesting, inventive series.

On a scale of 1-5, Honor Bound deserves a 5.

Love Leads the Way

…She coaches him in team leadership…but do they both need lessons in love?

Love Leads the Way, a sweet contemporary romance from the Wild Rose Press, written by Margot Johnson.

Between her demanding position as a Human Resources ace, Tessa Shore juggles her responsibilities of a single parent with an active four-year-old and advocating for her elderly mother who is suffers from advanced dementia. Romance is the last thing Tessa wants or needs in her busy life.

Intensely private engineer Mark Delaney also balances a similar rasher of plates: a demanding career, the care and supervision of his orphaned adolescent niece, and a mother also suffering from dementia. Driven by inborn rules which demand perfection at all times, the last thing he needs is the message from superiors to improve his “people skills” . . . or else.

Imagine his surprise when the teacher of such skills is beautiful, talented, as driven as he—and equally untouchable. Discovering mutual ground and improving communication proves to be crucial to their futures, both professional and personal

Our Review: Author Margot Johnson explores in depth several important issues facing many in modern society: how to effectively combine parenting with the demands of a job; the myriad issues surrounding single parenting; and, for some, the responsibility of seeing to the needs of elderly parents. In Love Leads the Way Johnson has handled each of these topics masterfully, entertaining without preaching, bringing humor to some potentially serious issues. Well done!

On a scale of 1-5, Love Leads the Way deserves a 4.

If Only for Today

… He came looking for solitude. He might leave after finding love…

If Only for Today, a contemporary sweet romance, is a current release for the Deerbourne Inn series out of the Wild Rose Press.

Xander Fortier, has no fear when it comes to documenting the ravages brought on by war or famine and the ever popular man’s inhumanity to man. But when it comes down to making time to write his first and likely last book, peace eludes him. Then he meets Jared Langford, caring and devoted clerk at the Deerbourne Inn, who takes care of Xander from their first meeting.

If opposites attract is an axiom as old as time, it suits these two down to their quirks and foibles. Jaren loves show tunes and is drawn to rescuing strays—the two and four footed kind. Xander is . . .  not. As both struggle to overcome past traumas, they find something new and exciting with each other. But is today enough?

Our Review: Rarely do we have time to read a book in one sitting. Not this time. If Only for Today drew us in from the first line. We kept turning those pages to learn the secrets hiding beneath the surface of these two charmers—as we’re sure readers of romance, gay or straight, will do with this lovely addition to the Deerbourne Inn series. Author Grey has paid homage to the elegant Inn, the lovely Vermont town, and it’s quirky residents in an understated and intriguing manner. It makes us want to find Willow Springs and spend an afternoon at the local cafĂ©, enjoying the baked treats. This is a beauty of a story. Do not miss it.

On a scale of 1-5, If Only for Today deserves a 7.

Dangerous Revelations

…what dangers will the pages reveal?...

Dillon Johnson is reeling from the death of his beloved stepmother Paula. When her will is read, he finds she has not only had a daughter he knew nothing about, abut also gave her up for adoption. Paula’s will had left a bequest to this daughter, a young woman named Carly James.

Carly, upon receiving word of the bequest, travels from Oregon to Dillon’s remote Nebraska ranch to learn more about her birth mother. Upon meeting she and Dillon experience an intense attraction for each other. As they become acquainted, strange men threaten them and bring violence into their lives.

It all seems to be connected to Paula’s journals. But why?

The phrase ‘ripped from the headlines’ comes to mind with this romantic thriller set in the remote Sandhills of Nebraska. Young widower Dillon Johnson and his darling little girl invite Carly James into their home, hoping to get to know the infant—now a young woman—his step-mother gave up shortly after her birth. Perhaps getting to know Carly will help solve some of the mystery surrounding Paula’s sudden appearance in Dillon’s life—like why she seemed content to lead a reclusive life on their ranch, or the journals she kept so religiously, as well as her obsession for fire safety. When threats about Paula’s journals increase in their intensity and duration, the mystery becomes not only who, but why?

Our Review: Author Jacki Ring has crafted a page turning thriller that features well-drawn and layered characters, nasty bad guys, and break your heart compassion for a young pregnant woman with nowhere to go, nowhere to turn.

On a scale of 1-5, Dangerous Revelations deserves a 7.

Our Review:   Once again, author Sadira Stone has not failed her fans with colorful characters in the middle of an equally colorful setting of a family bar like Bangers. As always, her skill for subtle sexual tension, slowly building to a mind-blowing crescendo is very well done. For fans of well-drawn plot lines with steamy romance, terrific characters and snappy dialogue, this is the book for you.

Shadows of Doubt

…despite warnings, should she take a chance on him?

Shadows of Doubt, written by Patricia McAlexander, published by the Wild Rose Press.

Former grade school bully and later amateur drug dealer, Jeff Hudson, turns his life around and is pursuing a degree in agriculture. His future, as well as a budding relationship with fellow student Sandy Harris, is threatened when a former dealer threatens to expose Jeff’s past to university authorities if he doesn’t rejoin the ring.

Realizing that Jeff is no longer the angry, misunderstood boy, Sandy must take a stand against her family and friends who swear he is no good and will only cause her unhappiness. Together, can they escape the past in order to forge a future?

Our Review: While the disapproval of parents and friends is a tale as old as time, Shadows of Doubt offers a different spin on a young woman’s determination to listen to what her heart and common sense tell her despite what others are saying.

One of author McAlexander’s strengths—are there many—is her ability to show the reader the different sides of an issue. While he claims to have changed, Jeff Hudson occasionally behaves like that same angry, unlovable boy from years past, only to turn on a dime and show uncharacteristic caring and affection for his young stepbrother. As well, the mounting stress and tension heaped on Sandy who is torn between her growing feelings for Jeff and her loyalty to her widowed mother and close friends comes through loud and clear. This aptly titled story is a study of conflict born out of loyalty, and following one’s heart and instinct.

On a scale of 1-5, Shadows of Doubt deserves a 5.

And her reclusive landlord, Simon McAlter, is another form of temptation Meg must avoid. She cannot look toward a lasting life until she reconciles the one she had in the past.

Our Review: As always, it is always a treat to read something by Jennifer Wilck. With her gift for showing—as opposed to telling—we were drawn in immediately by the snappy dialogue, well-drawn and layered characters, and mysteries behind the what led Meg to this spot on the Maine coast as well what kept Simon here, hiding from the outside world. This is a tale of love and loss, loyalty and betrayal—the resolution is not to be missed.

Finding Tuesday

Never say Never. If you do, it’ll come back and bite you in the ass…

The above a tried and true axiom has never been proved better than in Finding Tuesday, a contemporary romance written by Savannah Scarborough.

After a twenty-year absence, Grace McAllister returns to Temple, Georgia for the reading of her father’s will. She has neither seen, nor heard from him in all that time—but curiosity drives her to return, perhaps to find a bit of herself as well as the man who was her father.

After the will reveals she is not Benjamin Troup McAllister’s biological daughter, Grace digs in her heels and decides to stick around and jerk a few chains of her own. Aided by former bully Mayfield Donovan, who still plays the role of enigmatic bad boy, the two uncover a world of secrets, treachery and bad blood.

Our Review:  With snappy dialogue, more than a few laugh out loud moments, and a richly drawn setting of rural Georgia in the middle of a June heat wave, this is one fun story. The characters are multi-layered and as complex as the backstory which leads Gracie and May on their journey to find Tuesday. A jewel of a story.

On a scale of 1-5, Finding Tuesday deserves a 6.
